What Are They Saying About Hypnosis?
"If this were a drug, everyone would be using it," says David Spiegel, MD, a psychiatrist at Stanford University. "Changing your mental set can change what's going on in your body."
"Most patients benefit from the use of hypnotic suggestion for pain relief," says Guy Montgomery, PhD, a behavioral scientist at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
A 1995 consensus statement from the National Institutes of Health cited strong evidence that hypnosis can reduce chronic pain associated with cancer & other conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and tension headaches."Mayo Clinic"
Hypnosis is most frequently used in areas such as pain management, dentistry, pregnancy and delivery, anxiety and immune system function. No-one knows exactly how such bodily changes are brought about by hypnosis, but they clearly occur because of the connections between mind and body. Suggestions have the capacity to affect all systems and organs of the body in a variety of ways. "CNN"
